Barbie’s Ken, Re-imagined for the 21st Century

Created on Wed, 28 June 2017, 14:09

Barbie’s boy friend, Ken, first came out in 1961. He was designed as an all-American blue-eyed boy doll. Now in a bow to the increasingly multicultural world found in today’s America, Ken has been re-imagined and updated. His new evolution includes 15 new Ken dolls with three body types, seven skin tones, eight hair colors, nine hairstyles and modern fashions from business attire to athletic wear. Now, Barbie’s Ken may be Asian-American, African-American, Latino, Mixed-race or Caucasian. He may sport cornrows, pull his hair back into a man bun, spike his hair, or peroxide his hair among other choices. The new Ken line is part of the popular Fashionistas line.
